Complete PST discovery
PST Enterprise will automatically locate all PST files wherever they exist across the organization, by systematically scanning end user devices, network drives, removable devices, and Outlook profiles. Files will be discovered whether they are connected to an Outlook profile or not, and can be accessed even if they are password‑protected.
Zero Footprint client
PST Enterprise does not require any client software to be installed. The non-invasive client application is downloaded automatically as required, and runs in the background in memory. This ensures that end users will not be impacted by the PST file discovery process.
No End User Disruption
The fully automatic migration process means user intervention is not required at any stage during the discovery, management and migration of PST files. In addition, the folder structure within the source PST can be fully mirrored with the target location to ensure a seamless transition for users.
Automatic Assignment of Ownership
PST Enterprise will automatically assign an owner for each PST file it has discovered. If the file is currently connected to user’s Outlook profile, that user is assumed to be the owner. Otherwise it will perform an in-depth analysis of the PST file and assign an owner based on the file contents.
The self-service web portal is an optional feature that enables end users to decide how each of their PST files will be processed. It can be configured to determine which files and data items will be retained and where they will be migrated to, and is ideal for use by senior managers or by users with sensitive data.
PST Enterprise migrates data directly from the source PST file to the target location such as Exchange or Office 365, without staging via a central server. This approach minimizes requirements for additional hardware and software, avoids potential issues with network bandwidth, and removes the risk of processing bottlenecks.
Flexible Processing Actions
A wide choice of actions can be applied selectively to each individual PST file based on file or message attributes. Data can be migrated to the primary or archive mailbox in Exchange or Office 365, or it can be archived directly to Barracuda Message Archiver or the Barracuda Cloud Archiving Service. PST files can be copied or moved to a designated network server, or they can simply be deleted if they are no longer wanted.
Multiple processing actions including copying, moving, archiving or deleting can be applied consecutively to each PST file, either at a complete file level, or at an individual message level within each PST file, providing even greater flexibility in configuring migration options.
Selective processing criteria allow retention policies to be applied at an individual item level, allowing corporate information and governance policies to be enforced. Only data that is still needed will be migrated, with obsolete or unwanted data deleted automatically before migration. This approach also reduces the volume of data to be migrated and minimizes network traffic.
Item Level De-duplication
PST Enterprise can automatically deduplicate individual email messages prior to migration, with each unique message only being migrated once. This ensures duplicate or backup content does not get moved to the target location, and further reduces the overall volume of data to be migrated across the network.
Delete after Migration
Source PST files can be disconnected from Outlook after migration and deleted automatically. This completes the migration process by regaining storage and avoids confusion by preventing any further use of those files. PST Enterprise can also change each user’s settings in Outlook to prevent any new PST files being created, or data added to existing PST files.

The wide range of configurable processing rules mean that all PST discovery and migration operations across the organization can be scheduled and completed completely automatically. Individual operations can also be run on-demand if necessary.
PST Enterprise uses multiple data paths and parallel processing to migrate each PST file directly to its target location. This maximizes performance and avoids any throttling by Exchange or Office 365, while migration rate controls allow bandwidth usage to be optimized.
Advanced Error Handling
Tolerance and threshold values can be configured to highlight any problems encountered during processing that cannot be resolved automatically, such as corrupted PST files or messages. PST Enterprise will then assist administrators with managing the identification and resolution of these individual problems without interrupting the overall automated migration process.
Customizable Management Interface
The intuitive web-based admin portal allows administrators to coordinate and manage the discovery and processing of PST files easily and effectively. Customizable views provide a wide range of information including source location, physical and data size, the number of messages within each file, and the date discovered. Data from additional active directory attributes can be added to these views if needed.
Status reports and graphical displays are included to provide a real-time overview of operations and progress, and these are supported by a detailed status update and history for each individual PST file.
