Barracuda Becomes Title Sponsor for Reno-Tahoe Event
4-year deal brings unique charity aspect to Barracuda Championship
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Campbell, Calif. (July 9, 2014) – The PGA TOUR, the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation and Barracuda Networks, Inc.(NYSE: CUDA), a leading provider of cloud-connected security and storage solutions, announced today a four-year agreement making Barracuda the title sponsor of the TOUR’s Reno-Tahoe tournament.
The newly named Barracuda Championship is scheduled for July 31-August 3, 2014, at Montrêux Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nev.
“We are delighted to welcome Barracuda to the PGA TOUR as the new title sponsor of our tournament in Reno-Tahoe,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “The Barracuda Championship is a uniquely entertaining tournament that has been embraced by the fans and players with the use of the Modified Stableford scoring system. We look forward to working with Barracuda to take the tournament and its impact on the Reno-Tahoe community to even higher levels.”
The Barracuda Championship is the PGA TOUR’s only tournament to use the Modified Stableford scoring system. It encourages aggressive play by awarding positive points for birdie or better (8 for double eagle, 5 for eagle, 2 for birdie) and subtracting points for bogey (minus-1) or worse (minus-3). Last year’s champion, Gary Woodland, tallied 44 points over four rounds to win by nine over Jonathan Byrd and Andres Romero.

Philanthropy is a key focus for Barracuda and as such, the Barracuda Championship will incorporate a unique charity element on the reachable, downhill par-5 18th hole beginning in 2015. The Barracuda Bonus will be a competition within the competition, with players accumulating points on No. 18 throughout the week. The player with the most points on the closing hole will receive a bonus to donate to the charity of his choice. Moreover, an additional charity bonus will be awarded to any player who makes double-eagle 2 on the hole. There has been one double-eagle made on the hole since the tournament’s inception in 1999, by Shiv Kapur from India in 2010 (it was playing as the 9th hole at the time).
