How do I restore a previous configuration file on any Barracuda Networks product?

Solution #00001294

Scope:
Applies to all Barracuda Networks products, all firmware versions.

Answer:
If the backup file was downloaded manually, please follow these steps to restore the configuration backup:

  1. Using the Barracuda's Web user interface, navigate to the Advanced > Backup page.
  2. Click the Browse... button to the right of the Restore Backup File option and select the backup file to be restored. After it has been specified, click the Upload button to load it onto the Barracuda. For WSG see notes below if restoring backup to a VX from an appliance!
  3. Once it has been uploaded, the Barracuda will verify the file's integrity and display it at the bottom of the Advanced > Backup page. If you receive a checksum error, please see Solution #00001406.
  4. Click the Apply Now button when you are ready to apply the backup. The Barracuda unit will reboot as it applies the backup configuration.
Additional Notes:
If automated backups have been configured on the Barracuda unit and the previous configuration you wish to restore is present on the configured remote server, the backup can be restored by following these steps:
  1. Using the Barracuda's Web user interface, navigate to the Advanced > Backup page.
  2. Ensure that the Automated Backups configuration is correct and the Barracuda unit can properly connect to the configured remote server.
  3. Click the Browse... button to the right of the Restore Auto Backup option and select the backup file to be restored. After it has been specified, click the Upload button to load it onto the Barracuda unit.
  4. Once it has been uploaded, the Barracuda unit will verify the file's integrity and display it at the bottom of the Advanced > Backup page. If you receive a checksum error, please see Solution #00001406.
  5. Click the Apply Now button when you are ready to apply the backup. The Barracuda unit will reboot as it applies the backup configuration.
NOTE: If you have an older appliance on firmware 4.5 or below then, there are a few caveats to restoring from backup of which administrators should be aware:
  1. The serial number of the unit to which the configuration file is being restored must match that of the unit from which the original configuration was saved. If loading a configuration backup onto a new unit, the serial number must be the new unit's serial.
  2. The firmware revision of the unit to which the configuration file is being restored must match or be higher than that of the unit from which the original configuration was saved.
IMPORTANT NOTE for WSG to move restore file from an Appliance to a VX:
  1. If you had an appliance and you are moving to a VX, please confirm that you can go to your WSG appliance (if still operational) and remove any Applications for unauthenticated and authenticated Applications pages, from the block/accept tab as this will not be available with a VX. Next confirm there are no IP exemptions listed or else you will need to delete each or use the Bulk edit option to remove all IP exemptions listed.
Next to know if you had set Client IP visibility in the past or else contact support to assist in making sure all is set correctly for a VX, to not be a concern with restoring settings to the VX WSG. Otherwise, these pages will be hidden and it is possible that these settings may still take effect to some degree and cause issues later that are unseen and unknown from support.
