The Customer’s Challenge
The customer acquired another company that had a large number of email accounts on POP3 email systems. This company utilized PST files to support remote users under these POP3 email systems. The customer needed to quickly discover the PST files and ingest the PST data in order to migrate the end users to their corporate email system.
Additionally, they needed to do this systematically, without any end user involvement. With these requirements in mind, they set-out to find a product that could be managed remotely and perform the needed tasks, seamless to the end users.
PST Enterprise is easily deployed and configured within a web services environment and can be managed remotely via its web-based management console. The client software runs in memory on target systems – end user desktops / laptops and network files servers – to discover PST files and report on found data without interruption to the end users.
PST Enterprise includes technology to determine and assign the owner to found PST files that are not associated with an existing Outlook profile. This capability was essential because every PST was effectively orphaned as they were all created via the POP3 email systems. The customer now had a mechanism to tie the discovered PST files to the newly created Exchange mailboxes. Further, PST Enterprise provided systematic migration of PST file data to the end user mailboxes.
The customer utilized PST Enterprise to centralize email for their new end user base without interruption to the end users themselves.
They found the solution to be simple and leveraged its flexibility to adapt the processing to their environment via custom scripts. PST Enterprise is now core to all their email migration projects.
