Colgate Struggles with Symantec and Spam

Colgate was having a difficult time dealing with the growing amount of spam that was flooding student and faculty inboxes. After an unsuccessful experience with Symantec Mail Security deployed on his Microsoft Exchange server, Overfield knew that it was time to choose a vendor with a strong history of providing award-winning protection from spam and viruses. “The Symantec product we were using was awful. Not only was it was expensive to deploy, but it was extremely difficult to manage and configure. The user interface wasn’t intuitive or friendly for an organization with a limited IT staff,” said Overfield.

Because Symantec Mail Security resided on his Exchange server and was so inefficient, it was utilizing the majority of the server resources to simply filter inbound spam content, often leaving the mail server unable to complete its primary task of delivering and receiving emails.
