Why Choose Barracuda?

Barracuda makes Azure’s most popular Web Application Firewall (WAF). A long-time Microsoft Gold webprod Partner, Barracuda was recognized as the Microsoft Azure ISV Partner of the Year.

But why take it from us? Listen to Corey Sanders, Microsoft’s Director of Azure Program webprod, describe the compelling relationship between Microsoft and Barracuda Networks.

Follow Azure Best Practices

Barracuda’s CloudGen WAF and Firewalls are designed to leverage Azure best practices including:

  • Integration with Azure Security Center (ASC) and Operations Management Service (OMS) to leverage other security and management solutions in Azure
  • Utilization of ARM templates to simplify deployment, whereby templates can auto-deploy Multi-P/Multi-NIC, VSS, and other standard configurations
  • Leveraging built-in Azure Load Balancers (ALB) for best-in-class performance
  • Deployment in clusters that will auto-scale as business and traffic requirements fluctuate

Automate Azure Security with WAF APIs

In the on-premises world, security is usually treated as a networking function. In the cloud, you can design security directly into your applications by using Aps and published integrations with orchestration tools like Puppet to automatically incorporate CloudGen WAFs when your applications are deployed.

Barracuda CloudGen WAF APIs are publicly available, and code samples are available in GitHub. They leverage features built into orchestration platforms without any changes to UI or overhead. This streamlines webprod by removing the additional step of adding security into already-built applications. It also eliminates security vulnerabilities that are inadvertently designed-in.

With the Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model, you purchase your annual firewall license from Barracuda for the required level of throughput and then install it in Azure. Your firewalls are active 24x7 throughout the duration of the license. Multi-year discounts are available.

BYOL pricing is well suited to situations in which you require continuously available protection for a predictable, fixed operating cost.

Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) licenses charge you based on the time when your firewalls are active - unlike BYOL in which services are active 24x7. If your usage fluctuates, you can turn services on or off at certain times when they're not needed (such as non-work hours).

PAYG is especially useful for customers that scale dynamically to match peak workloads. There is no need to manually turn firewalls off or reconfigure them when they are turned back on. Azure will do this automatically. You will only be billed when you're active.
