Barracuda Networks has recently introduced its completely reworked and redesigned, free of charge 3D-visualization application Barracuda NG Earth. The new version offers more information on centrally managed Barracuda NG Firewalls and can display additional information such as system status, firmware version, NG Firewall model, the local time zones of the respective locations, as well as the state of the site-to-site VPN tunnels between the locations. The navigation and handling has been widely improved by adding various new settings to the redesigned menu bar. The existing physical map of Earth has been extended by a political map, which displays countries, borders and capitals. Via the new Appliance Information drop-down list, administrators can now conveniently navigate from location to location and display the respective VPN Tunnel status in real time. Despite the increased functional range, Barracuda NG Earth 2.0 depends only on a fraction of the system resources and requirements and can now be used on standard netbooks. In a nutshell, Barracuda NG Earth 2.0 is a great tool to visualize the current state of the distributed environment in a way that makes it even understandable to “non-tech-guys”.
Barracuda NG Earth 2.0 is part of the Barracuda NG Control Center Enterprise, and Global Editions will be included on the USB thumb drive which is shipped with every Barracuda NG Firewall hardware. The application is also available for download here: Download Barracuda NG Earth 2.0
Note: Barracuda NG Earth 2.0 is backwards compatible and works with Barracuda NG Control Centers running on 4.2.x, 5.0.x and 5.2 – In order to display the newly available additional information, the Barracuda NG Control Center needs to run on firmware version 5.2.1.
