Our latest firmware release of the Barracuda NG Firewall is more than just an update; it's an upgrade to a new standard in security and network optimization.
I've blogged about the NG before; it's an excellent product that combines firewall security with user and application awareness. Firmware release 5.4 enhances those features and adds,
* SSL inspection (Models F200 and above)
* Granular detection of applications (standard or user-defined)
* Deep Application Context Analysis
These additional features allow IT management to apply a higher level of Quality of Service (QoS) optimization to the network. In practical terms this means that the Barracuda NG Firewall allows admins to analyze traffic using much more detailed information. Admins then have the data they need to apply security and routing policies in a much more meaningful way. Dynamic traffic shaping and WAN optimization ensure that prioritized traffic takes the best path to its destination. With network traffic exploding the way that it is, these features have never been more valuable to an organization conducing mission critical business on the network.
And since this is the Barracuda NG Firewall that we're talking about, all of this is in addition to the already awesome features that make up the core product:
Security: the NG Firewall protects against malware, spam, DoS attacks, advanced persistent threats, and network intrusion, in addition to enforcing user defined policies and access controls.
Web traffic: Layer 7 application visibility + LDAP / AD integration make this product a powerful asset. Policies can be defined using applications, user or group IDs, bandwidth, time, and almost any other conceivable criteria.
WAN optimization: data compression, TCP flow optimization, protocol acceleration, and data de-duplication make the most of your site-to-site links.
Secure remote access: SSL and IPsec allow users to securely connect site-to-site or client-to-site.
Dynamic traffic prioritization: Make sure traffic gets where its going using policies based on applications, traffic loads, and link status. Send VOIP across one link and email on another.
And centralized management using the NG Control Center means that this kind of power has never been easier to configure and manage.
If you are already using the Barracuda NG Firewall with an active Energize Update subscription, release 5.4 will be available to you on May 2, 2013, at no additional charge. If you are looking to purchase a new NG Firewall, 5.4 will begin shipping by May 31.
